Zhangjuan Liu is the violist of the MILA Quartet, the inaugural graduate chamber music fellowship quartet of The Tianjin Juilliard School. 

As a life-long advocate for chamber music, Liu performed with Midori at the age of 14 and was featured in major events and festivals such as the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, the Sarasota Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and School, Ozawa International Chamber Music Academy, and Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival. Liu was also a member of the 2016 Nobuko Imai Viola Masterclass in Otaru, Japan. She is the first prize winner of the Princess Galvani Vadhana International Ensemble Competition in Bangkok, Thailand, and The Singapore International Solo & Ensemble Competition.

As a teacher, Liu has joined the English and Music Theory faculty of the Tianjin Juilliard Pre-College, and also teaches the Music Discovery course at Tianjin Juilliard’s Public Education Division. Outside of music, Liu enjoys hiking and traveling.

Born in Chengdu, Sichuan, Liu received her bachelor’s degree at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. She holds master’s degrees in Viola Performance and Chamber Music from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas, and The Tianjin Juilliard School, Tianjin.  Liu’s primary teachers include the Shanghai Quartet, principal violist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra Manchin Zhang, and the Grammy-winning violist James Dunham, formerly of the Cleveland String Quartet. Liu has also been coached by Hadao Sarada, Seiji Ozawa, and Gábor Takács-Nagy.
