Pre-College, Bassoon

Duan Shaohua currently serves as a Bassoon faculty at Tianjin Juilliard’s Pre-College.

He studied at the Affiliated Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore, and the State University of Music Trossingen in Germany. His mentors include Zhu Jun, Zhang Jinmin, and Akio Koyama.

During his time in Germany, he served as principal bassoonist of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra, and the Philharmonic Orchestra Villingen.

In 2019, Duan returned to China to teach at the Central Conservatory of Music. In the same year, he performed in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and was subsequently invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in the United States. In 2025, he joined The Tianjin Juilliard School.

Since beginning his teaching in China, his students have achieved significant success in international competitions, earning a total of three first prizes and three second prizes. Notable awards include those from the Luigi Zanuccoli International Bassoon Competition in Italy, the PACOS International Bassoon Competition in Portugal, and the DAAD Concerto Competition in Germany.
