Pre-College, Oboe

Shaoming Tian is an oboist and English horn playerat the China National Symphony Orchestra, serving as associate principal oboe. He is a National First-Class Performer, a recipient of the State Council Special Allowance, a specially appointed expert at the Central Conservatory of Music, and a jury member for arts talent admissions at Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Renmin University of China.

Shaoming Tian graduated with distinction from the orchestral department of the Central Conservatory of Music in 1988, where he studied under Liangong Yu and Yu Bai, and joined the China National Symphony Orchestra in the same year. Tian is a core member of the woodwinds section, recognized for his extensive experience and superb technique. He has performed as a soloist in numerous classical symphonic works, leaving audiences a particularly deep impression with his melancholic yet warm English horn solos in Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 and in Sibelius’s symphonic poems, especially The Swan of Tuonela.

Over a musical career spanning more than three decades, he has distinguished himself in performances with the orchestra under many world-renowned maestros, including Seiji Ozawa, Krzysztof Penderecki, Osmo Vänskä, David Zinman, Daniel Harding, and Michel Plasson. He has consistently delivered outstanding performances on nationwide tours and during international tours to the United States, Asia, Europe, Australia, and South America. 

Shaoming Tian joins The Tianjin Juilliard School and serves as a Pre-College oboe faculty from September 2026.
