Program Description
Up to 36 Junior participants are selected through an application process. Merit-based scholarship for select Juniors.
All Juniors must be accompanied by an adult guardian throughout the festival.
Concerto Rehearsals with Chamber Orchestra
One of the festival's biggest highlights includes an exclusive opportunity for all Juniors to collaborate with a conductor and an orchestra. Each Junior participant has one rehearsal with the QingXin Ensemble and a conductor, playing one movement of a concerto.
Prior to their collaboration with the ensemble, a rehearsal with a second piano will be arranged. Staff pianists are assigned by the festival.

Junior Concerto Competition
Up to twelve (12) Juniors are selected to participate in the Junior concerto competition, and up to six (6) winners are chosen to perform their concerto movement with QingXin Ensemble in a special concert.
The festival provides accompanists (2nd piano) for rehearsals and the competition.
Participants who won the 2025 concerto competition are not eligible to compete in the 2026 competition.
Chamber Music Readings
The ability to collaborate with other musicians is an essential skill for every pianist. New in 2026, all Juniors are invited to experience chamber music at the festival. After acceptance to TJPF, Junior participants may submit a video application demonstrating prior experience in collaborative music making and will be assigned to work either with members of the MILA string quartet, or placed into a duo piano group with another Junior.
Selected Juniors may be selected for a special performance.

Emerging Artist Recitals
Each Junior performs once on the festival’s Emerging Artist Recitals. All pieces must be played from memory.
The festival committee is responsible for the scheduling of these recitals, and their decision is final.
Master Classes
Each Junior plays in a master class with one of the festival’s artist-faculty. All pieces must be played from memory. The master classes are open to the public.

Private Lessons
Each Junior participant receives four (4) one-hour private lessons with the festival’s artist-faculty. Free repertoire.

Additional lessons: Participants may request additional lessons with any guest artist of their choice. The lesson fee is 3000 RMB per hour. These requests must be communicated to the festival committee in writing via email. Please note that although the festival will try its best to honor these requests, no guarantee can be made.
