After graduating with a master's degree in musicology and Slavic language and literature from Saarland University in Germany, Liu Yang returned to China and immersed herself in various music education practices. She has worked in rural and public schools and is currently a member of the Kodaly Music Education Committee of the Beijing Musicians Association. She is also a music and drama teacher at a K–12 bilingual school. 
 
During her time in Germany, Liu went beyond her academic courses,  delving into teaching methodologies in music. She continuously expanded her knowledge and engagedin practical courses. To bridge her  studies with contemporary music education in China, and align with international advancements. Liu attended various practical workshops and seminars on music teaching methods both domestically and internationally. 
 
Due to her interest in movement and drama, Liu's music classes are  engaging by intertwining them with subjects like science, dance, drama, and language. This interdisciplinary approach fosters a seamless integration of knowledge, allowing students to experience the interconnectedness of various disciplines.
