In 2006, Sheng Qiu was admitted to the Middle School Affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied trumpet under Professor Chen Guang. In 2012, he pursued further studies in Austria at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Professor Johann Plank. In 2015, he was awarded a full scholarship to study trumpet under Jon Dante at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. In 2019, he graduated with an Honors Bachelor’s degree from the National University of Singapore. The same year, he enrolled at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, Germany, to study trumpet under Guido Segers, Principal Trumpet of the Munich Philharmonic.
In 2021, Qiu was admitted to the Hochschule für Musik Trossingen in Germany to pursue a Konzertexamen (Doctoral Diploma) in Trumpet Performance under renowned trumpet educator Professor Wolfgang Guggenberger. During his time in Germany, he joined the Rhine State Philharmonic Orchestra and served as Guest Principal Trumpet for the Wernigerode Chamber Orchestra. He also maintained long-term collaborations as a guest trumpet player with the Trier Theatre Orchestra and the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra.
After returning to China in 2023, Qiu continued long-term collaborations as a guest or invited musician with various renowned orchestras, including the Macao Orchestra, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, China Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, China National Opera House Symphony Orchestra, and Beijing Symphony Orchestra.
Qiu has collaborated with many renowned artists, such as Chuina Jing, Tianwa Yang, Yijie Shi, Lü Siqing, Tianxu An, Daniel Hope, András Schiff, Qian Zhou, Li-Wei Qin, Selina Ott, Alexander Krichel, Sophie Pacini, Andreas Martin Hofmeir, Lin Zhaoliang, Frank Huang, and Zeng Yuqian, among others. He has also worked with conductors including Daniele Gatti, Benjamin Schwarz, Rasmus Baumann, Marcus Merkel, Xiaoyu Yang, Myung-whun Chung, Xincao Li, Yang Yang, Daye Lin, Lü Jia, Jiajun Huang, Guoyong Zhang, Yi Huang, and Jiemin Zhang.
Qiu is a trumpet faculty member at Shandong University of Arts, and he joins The Tianjin Juilliard School’s Music Development Program in fall 2025.
