About the Program
Juilliard’s tradition of composition pedagogy is defined by an open approach to style and a focus on collaboration, technique, and artistry. The Tianjin Juilliard master’s program in composition represents a unique opportunity to study in China’s dynamic contemporary music environment. Students will study with a combination of Tianjin Juilliard’s resident faculty, composition faculty from the New York campus, and distinguished guest composers as they explore what it means to be a creative artist in the context of today’s fast-paced social and technological transformations.
Composition students will have the opportunity to hear their work performed by fellow Tianjin Juilliard students in chamber music concerts and their music read by the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestra. Students will have additional opportunities to compose for Chinese instruments, which play an indispensable role in the contemporary music scene, as well as curricular projects designed to bring variety and experience to their studies.
In addition to Tianjin Juilliard’s resident faculty Niccolo Athens, guest teachers will include the Dean and Director of the Music Division at Juilliard, David Ludwig, as well as renowned Chinese American composers Chen Yi and Zhou Long.
Additional guest faculty appointments will be announced at a later date.
Join us for opportunities to collaborate with some of the best young musicians in the world.
