Siyao Li is a pianist, music picture book author, and founding member of the Trivium Piano Trio. She has been active on stage as both a soloist and chamber musician, while also devoting herself to professional piano pedagogy and being an advocate of classical music. She is acclaimed for her profound musical expression, rigorous artistic pursuit, and refined pianism.
She has performed at Cleveland’s Mixon Hall and Kulas Hall, Hangzhou Grand Theatre, Beijing Yamaha Music Exchange Center, the Zhejiang and the China Conservatories of Music, among other venues. She represented Lee University in its homecoming concert and, as a pianist of the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Advanced Piano Trio program, appeared in the institute’s Gala Concert. In addition to the piano, she is also proficient in harpsichord and organ, specializing in basso continuo. As a member of the Case Western Reserve University Baroque Ensemble, she has frequently appeared at Haydn Hall, Harkness Chapel, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Her concerto performance was broadcast on Cleveland Classical Radio. In recent years, she has toured extensively across China with her trio.
Li holds a Pedagogy Certificate from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she was a piano teaching assistant and online program CIM² instructor. She has led live-streamed music appreciation and piano classes, and has been invited to give Yamaha (China) online masterclasses.
Her students have won prizes in international competitions, such as the Lakeland Concerto Competition (U.S.), Vivace International Piano Competition (France), Yamaha Music Scholarship, and the Singapore International Piano Competition. Many of her students have been admitted to prestigious music institutions, including the New England Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, The Tianjin Juilliard School, Central Conservatory of Music, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, and Wuhan Conservatory of Music. She has been awarded multiple times as an Outstanding Teacher in competitions such as Steinway National Youth Piano Competition, Xinghai Cup, Pearl River/Kayserburg International Youth Piano Competition, KAWAI Asia Piano Competition, Mendelssohn International Youth Piano Competition, International German Irmler Piano Competition, and was recognized as “China Piano Education Pioneer” by Chopin International Youth Piano Open.
Originally from Hangzhou, Li began her piano studies with pedagogue Mei Yao. At the age of 11, she gained early admission to the Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music, where she studied under Professors Yuan Wu and Aiping Jin, achieving outstanding academic performance and receiving multiple scholarships. She continued her studies in the United States on a full scholarship, studying under pianist Ning An, followed by HaeSun Paik (who currently serves as a professor of piano at the New England Conservatory of Music). She earned both her Master of Music in Piano Performance and Artist Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
