Tongxin Chen is the Principal Harpist of the China National Symphony Orchestra and a faculty member in the Music Development Program at The Tianjin Juilliard School.
As an accomplished orchestral musician, she has performed extensively with leading orchestras across China and internationally, including the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, Guiyang Symphony Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, China National Opera House Symphony Orchestra, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, and Uzbekistan National Opera Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, she was appointed Principal Harpist of the China National Symphony Orchestra.
Beyond her orchestral work, Chen is equally dedicated to solo and chamber music. She has performed multiple times as a student representative at the graduate convocation and commencement ceremonies of The Tianjin Juilliard School. From 2019 to 2022, she was awarded a place in Xinghai Conservatory’s Talent Training Program, during which time she presented five solo recitals, highlighting the harp’s expressive range and her interpretive depth. In 2021, she and her flute duo partner won third prize in the ensemble category at the Hong Kong International Harp Competition. In 2018, she gave solo performances at the Paris 3rd Arrondissement Town Hall and the Versailles Conservatory.
In addition to her performance career, Chen is an active educator. In the 2023–24 academic year, she served as a teaching assistant in music theory for the Tianjin Juilliard Pre-College. Since 2024, she has been a faculty member in the Music Development Program, where she teaches individual harp instruction and the Instrumental Exploration course. She is also actively engaged in arranging harp repertoire tailored for young learners.
Chen began studying piano at the age of four and started majoring in harp at 14. She received a full scholarship to pursue her master’s degree at The Tianjin Juilliard School, studying under Liya Huang. She earned her bachelor’s degree and completed her secondary education at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, where she studied with harpist Rui Zhou.
