Cellist Yifan Wu holds dual doctoral degrees in music performance from Yale University and Boston University. After completing his studies, he joined the China Philharmonic Orchestra. He was awarded a full scholarship to Yale University, where he studied under the renowned cellist Aldo Parisot, and upon graduation, he received the Aldo Parisot Distinguished Soloist Award. He also studied under Professor Hans Jensen at Northwestern University.
As a performer, Wu is dedicated to exploring the coexistence of musical expression and technical mastery. He has appeared as soloist in Yale's annual concerts and with the UMKC Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with prominent contemporary composers such as Chen Yi in solo performances. He also served as the associate principal cellist for Yo-Yo Ma's charity concerts. Additionally, he was the associate principal of the Grammy-nominated Yale Cello Ensemble, led by principal cellist Ole Akahoshi. In recent years, he has been a guest artist with Palaver Strings in the United States.
Wu studied chamber music for nearly two years with the Tokyo String Quartet and participated in masterclasses with Laurence Lesser, Lynn Harrell, and Andres Diaz. As a passionate music educator, he frequently teaches undergraduate cello courses at Boston University. He has served as a teaching assistant and chamber music instructor at the Meadowmount School of Music in New York, working with young cellists from around the world under Professor Hans Jensen's guidance.
