Public EducationMusic Development Program – Flute

Yucheng Zhang started her musical journey at the age of 7, studying under associate professor Li Ling from the Central Conservatory of Music. She later studied at the primary and middle schools affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music, laying a solid professional foundation. During her undergraduate studies at the Mannes School of Music, she studied under Han Guoliang and Judith Mendenhall. She then furthered her studies at The Tianjin Juilliard School under Gergely Ittzés, earning a master's degree in orchestral studies.  

In her professional career, Zhang currently serves as a flute instructor in the Public Education division at The Tianjin Juilliard School and a judge for the Huaxia Cup Flute Competition. In terms of teaching, she has been engaged in flute teaching since graduation from undergraduate, focusing on fostering students' interest and enhancing their musical literacy. She has led students to participate in numerous important domestic and international competitions, such as the National Huaxia Cup Flute Competition, the CYFA China Flute Youth Alliance "Altus" Cup National Youth Flute Competition, the China Youth Music Competition Hummingbird Music Award, and the Central Conservatory of Music Exhibition, among others. Her students have repeatedly achieved excellent results . Additionally, she has led students to participate in various summer camps such as Beijing "Opening the Door to Art" and the Qingdao International Flute Festival, enriching their practical experience.

As a flute orchestral player,Zhang has rich stage experience. She  performed with orchestras at renowned domestic and international venues including the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Hong Kong City Hall, Beijing Art Center, Beijing Concert Hall, and Carnegie Hall. She has also served as principal flutist multiple times, performing works such as Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, Hanson's Symphony No. 2, "Romantic", Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, and Richard Strauss's Don Juan.

Yucheng Zhang has won awards in multiple competitions, including the First Prize in the Professional Youth Group of the First "China-Italy Flute Competition" and the Second Prize in the In-School Concerto Competition. She participated in the flute masterclasses of Ransom Wilson, flute professor at Yale University, for consecutive years Moreover, she has studied under renowned flute professors such as Carol Wincenc from The Juilliard School, Paula Robison from the New England Conservatory of Music, and Linda Chesis from the Manhattan School of Music.
