An electronic organist (Electone), Yuejian Chen received training in various music styles, from classical to pop, jazz, and electronic music. Born in Huai’an, China, he received his musical education at the middle school affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, studying with Professor Lei Zhu and Dan Wu. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he embarked on his career as a classical organist. Chen furthered his studies at The Juilliard School, earning both Master’s and Doctoral degrees under the tutelage of Grammy-winning organist Paul Jacobs.
A versatile and dedicated concert organist, Chen has been frequently featured in recitals and concerts across China and the United States. He has appeared as a soloist at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Shanghai Concert Hall, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Xinhai Concert Hall, Hangzhou Grand Theater, and Hong Kong Cultural Center. In New York City, he has given organ recitals at prominent historical venues, such as the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, The Marble Collegiate Church, and St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Chen also served as the Organ Scholar and the Associate Organist at the United Methodist Church Park Avenue, the Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, and St. Michael’s Church 99th St. NYC.
Chen is committed to promoting organ music and education in China, he has also established himself as a concert hall organist. He currently serves as a resident artist at the American Guild of Organists (AGO) Shanghai Chapter and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Organ Arts Center. In 2020, Chen participated in a research program led by Juilliard violinist Max Tan, which involved editing and recording a newly discovered trio edition of Chausson’s Poème.
