4. What programs are offered at The Tianjin Juilliard School?
The Tianjin Juilliard School has a Graduate Studies division offering an U.S.- accredited Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in three majors: instrumental and orchestral studies, instrumental and chamber music studies, and collaborative piano. There is a dual-degree program offered to Master of Music students in collaboration with the Tianjin Conservatory of Music.
The Pre-College division offers a comprehensive, conservatory-style music program on Saturdays for students ages 8 to 18 who exhibit the talent, potential, and ambition to pursue advanced study in China and abroad.
Tianjin Juilliard's Public Education division is the bridge connecting the world-class musical education of The Juilliard School to the Chinese public through a variety of programs for music learners of all ages and levels. On Sundays, the Music Development Program offers instrumental lessons, chorus, and music literacy courses. Music Development Program students get to perform regularly throughout the year and many of these performances are open to the public. Public Education also offers music-themed summer and winter camps.
Continuing Education division offers a wide range of programs for professional musicians and teachers, including professional development workshops, such as teacher training courses and resources to support their career development.
5. Who can apply for the dual-degree program?
Master of Music students enrolled in year 1 and year 2 at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music are eligible to apply to the dual-degree Program. This unique opportunity consists of study at Tianjin Conservatory and two years of study at Tianjin Juilliard. Students who successfully complete the program earn a master's degree from The Juilliard School in New York and the Tianjin Conservatory of Music. Learn more about the dual-degree program here.
6. Who teaches at The Tianjin Juilliard School?
The Tianjin Juilliard School’s resident faculty is made up of esteemed teachers and performers from around the world. World-renowned conductors are invited to lead intensive rehearsals and orchestral concerts. Visiting faculty from the New York campus come to Tianjin to teach master classes, and to engage in recurring residencies and longer-term projects. Students also have opportunities to study with guest artists from peer institutions.
7. Will there be student exchange programs between the two schools?
Although faculty and visiting artists will travel between the New York and Tianjin campuses, there will not be any formal student exchange programs at this time. However, there are project-based performance exchanges between the two campuses.
8. What performances are offered by The Tianjin Juilliard School?
The School offers public performances on campus and tickets to these performances are available to the public for free or at a very low cost. The public can attend concerts performed by the Tianjin Juilliard Ensemble, the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestra, Chamber Music Ensembles, and more. The Tianjin Juilliard Ensemble is a mixed-instrument ensemble composed of distinguished Tianjin Juilliard resident faculty members. There are over 200 performances presented annually in the 687-seat concert hall, 295-seat recital hall, and 221-seat Tanoto Theater. There are no plans to expand into dance and drama at this time. However, this may be reassessed in the future.
