Overview

The inaugural Tianjin Juilliard Strings Symposium takes place over three days from May 25 to 27. This year’s Symposium will focus on violin and viola, with the aim to establish an ecosystem for students and industry pedagogues to network, learn, promote, and elevate the level of strings playing. The Symposium will bring together participants from diverse backgrounds to engage in lessons, master classes, and performances, fostering a collaborative environment for skill enhancement and professional growth. Through interactive sessions and performances, attendees will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge, refine techniques, and forge connections within the strings community within and beyond China, laying the foundation for future collaborations and advancements in the field. 

 

Objectives

  • Foster skill enhancement: Offer workshops, master classes, and interactive sessions aimed at refining techniques, exploring new methodologies, and enhancing the overall proficiency of participants in violin and viola playing. 
  • Promote collaboration and growth: Encourage performances and initiatives that contribute to the advancement of strings playing, while also promoting the importance of continuous learning and development within the industry. 
  • Facilitate networking opportunities: Provide a platform for students and industry pedagogues to connect, exchange ideas, and establish professional relationships within the violin and viola community. 

 

Who Should Apply

The Tianjin Juilliard Strings Symposium welcomes applications from the following groups of participants.  

For the 12 to 17 year-old category: Aspiring young violinists and violists aged 12 to 17 seeking to enhance their skills, network with peers, and learn from industry professionals are encouraged to apply. 

For the 18 to 28 year-old category: Young adult violinists and violists aged 18 to 28 aiming to further their studies, connect with fellow musicians, and explore career opportunities in the strings industry are welcome to apply. 

Auditors who should register for this symposium include professionals in the fields of music or performing arts, including but not limited to the following: 

  • Violin and viola instructors: Responsible for guiding students and enriching their skills and understanding. 
  • Professors and mentors from music institutions: With extensive teaching and performance experience, able to share their expertise and insights. 
  • Music educators and researchers: Devoted to education and research, with a deep understanding and interest in music education. 

 

Offerings

Participants can expect a range of offerings including individual lessons tailored to their skill level, enriching master classes led by renowned instructors, and captivating performances showcasing both emerging talents and seasoned professionals.

Participants aged 12 to 17

Tuition: 9,000 RMB

Application fee: 200 RMB 

 

Participants aged 18 to 28 

Tuition: 9,000 RMB  

Application fee: 200 RMB  

 

Full scholarship is available for participants ages 18 to 28, including room and board if accepted.  

  

Auditors

500RMB for a one-day pass or 1200RMB for a three-day pass.
