Performance Activities Coordinator, Pre-College
Reports to Assistant Dean of Pre-College
The position of Performance Coordinator of Pre-College works a Tuesday-Saturday work week during the academic year (September-May), and a Monday-Friday work week during the summer months (June-August).
Responsibilities:
Performance Activities Administration
- Implements policies and requirements for performance activities in consultation with Associate Dean and Assistant Dean
- Prepares and manages all performance-related correspondence for students, parents, faculty, and various TJS departments
- Oversees the creation of all programs and concert materials
- Creates the Pre-College Concert Calendar and maintains the divisional performance archive
- Responsible for the contracts and payment of guest artists, working closely with Finance and Legal Affairs departments
- With Assistant Dean, coordinates budgeting needs for performance activities
Event Management
- Responsible for coordinating all divisional performances, master classes, and competitions, including stage management, ushers, piano technicians, recording team, and streaming services, when required.
- Coordinates the Piano Performance Forum, in collaboration with faculty advisor
- For competitions, communication with faculty, conductors, judges, students, piano technicians; creates schedule and cuts; and day-of running of the event
- Provides translation at events, when necessary
General Administration
- Coordinates part-time faculty/staff, and graduate student mentors, including hiring procedures, contract preparation, and monthly payroll, working closely with Human Resources, Legal Affairs, and Grad Studies departments.
- Coordinates details of annual performance juries, working with faculty to determine instrumental requirements
- As a member of the PC administration, collaborates with other team members to support day-to-day operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with strong background/experience in administrative area and working with expatriates
- Excellent oral and written Chinese, TEM 8 equivalency for English
- Good communication skill, with professional manner and patience in dealing with parents and children
- Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to communicate with Pre-College students, parents, and faculty
- Background in classical music strongly preferred
- Embraces creative ways of approaching challenges

Tianjin Juilliard Faculty Fall Workshops
The Tianjin Juilliard School will offer a series of seven intensive music workshops led by our renowned resident faculty this fall. Our free workshops are open to students outside of Tianjin Juilliard, and they are designed for serious musicians interested in innovative approaches to learning. Through these interactive workshops, participants have the opportunity to have an intensive musical experience with our faculty at Juilliard’s campus in Tianjin. The workshops will take place from September 2022 to February 2023. Please look out for more upcoming workshop updates on this page.
Every workshop offers participants the opportunity to:
- Engage with Tianjin Juilliard resident faculty on a 1-1 basis
- Observe and perform in daily masterclasses
- Access Tianjin Juilliard's state-of-the-art facilities
- Explore our campus and meet fellow participants, current students, and faculty
Submit an application
All workshops are free. Applications will open on July 25 for both participants and observers. Most workshops allow a limited number of auditors. The current auditor registration is only open to music professionals. Auditors will be able to attend daily masterclasses, rehearsals, and concerts. Please refer to each workshop below for application and registration information.
Registration and pre-recorded auditions will be required for individual participants and pre-formed groups.

Woodwind Workshop (September 25-26)
The Tianjin Juilliard School’s Woodwind Workshop provides a virtual stage for woodwind students from leading music schools around the world. Students will have the opportunity to have an intensive musical experience with our faculty– Gergely Ittzés, Mingjia Liu, Xiangyu Zhou, and Akio Koyama at Juilliard’s campus in Tianjin through observation and participation in a series of masterclasses.
Application deadline: September 18
* Preference will be given to college students. The students under the age of 18 are encouraged to audit the workshop.
Harp Workshop (October 16-18)
This three-day workshop offers a solo masterclass as well as orchestra repertoire and special topics about the harp. Harp faculty, Dr. Li-Ya Huang, will teach masterclasses, orchestral excerpt sessions, and offer a topic lecture on Debussy’s Danse sacrée et danse profane and Ravel’s Introduction et Allegro. Each participant will receive a 45-minute private lesson. Students will have the opportunity to perform at the final recital. Visiting faculty member from Juilliard in New York, Nancy Allen, will teach an online masterclass session during the workshop.

The current application is only open to harp students and teachers.
Percussion Workshop (October 16-18)
Participating students will study with the percussion faculty at the Tianjin Juilliard percussion studios for three intensive days. Students will have individual lessons with percussion faculty, June Hahn, participate in masterclasses, technique clinics, as well as rehearse and perform in a percussion ensemble with other students. Students will have full experience with the school’s percussion studios.
Percussion students and music professionals are welcome to audit the masterclass.

Double Bass Workshop (October 17-21)
Participants will study with double bass faculty and guest teachers in a week-long immersive double bass workshop. Students will work one-on-one with double bass faculty DaXun Zhang, as well as participate in guest masterclasses. All participants are welcome to attend a solo recital performed by DaXun Zhang and a concert by the Tianjin Juilliard Ensemble. Guest artists are Song Yi (Central Conservatory of Music), Luo Xu (Shanghai Conservatory), Yang Xia (Xi'an Conservatory), Huang Chen (Zhejiang Conservatory), and Yang Zhihao (Wuhan Conservatory). They will teach masterclasses during the workshop.

The current auditor registration is only open to double bass students and teachers.
String and Piano Chamber Music Workshop (November 7-10)
Participating chamber groups will work with faculty during this four-day immersive chamber music workshop. Students will get to work with Tianjin Juilliard resident faculty including members of the Shanghai Quartet - Weigang Li, Angelo Xiang Yu, Honggang Li, Nicholas Tzavaras; piano faculty Xiaohan Wang, and cello faculty Yeonjin Kim.
Each group will also participate in masterclasses. This workshop will focus on individual and ensemble techniques including intonation, balance, voicing, color, style, and musical interpretation. All groups will work toward a culminating performance at Tianjin Juilliard’s stunning concert hall or recital hall. Guest artist from Central Conservatory of Music, Gefang Frank Yang, will teach masterclasses during the workshop.
Brass Workshop (February 13-15, 2023)
The virtual workshop will provide an opportunity to work one-on-one with trombone faculty Lee Allen, trumpet faculty Sergey Tyuteykin, and horn faculty Chang Chou Han. In addition, three guest teachers: Ethan Bensdorf (Manhattan School of Music /New York Philharmonic), Jeff Scott (Oberlin College), and Joseph Alessi (The Juilliard School/ New York Philharmonic) will join the workshop online and teach 3 masterclasses.
Collaborative Piano Workshop (March 29-31, 2023)
Join The Tianjin Juilliard School collaborative piano studio for a unique peek into the life of a collaborative pianist from inside the classroom and behind the scenes! Collaborative Piano, as the name suggests, is interactive in nature and encompasses the greatest variety in style and scope of collaborative music-making. Get a taste for the profession by immersing yourself in this series of classes, rehearsals, and performances. Throughout these activities, you will observe and experience the fascinating kaleidoscope that is collaborative piano:
• Collaborative Skills: Instrumental – a practicum to hone the skills of collaborating with instrumental partners
• Collaborative Skills: Vocal – an exploration of the various techniques and styles in coaching and accompanying vocal repertoire
• German Diction – the study of the basic principles of German lyric diction and practicum in coaching it
• Multi-Diction – an in-depth analysis and comparative study of the different types of lyric dictions and the interrelationship between language and musical style
• Opera Performance Technique – a workshop setting of an opera rehearsal including staging, dramatic and musical coaching
• Liederabend – recital featuring art songs of Britten Benjamin presented by the collaborative piano studio with guest singers
• Observation of lessons with collaborative piano faculty
• Discussion forum with collaborative piano faculty
• Attendance of Tianjin Juilliard Festival Connect! Concerts
• Opportunity for a private lesson with faculty for additional fee (subject to faculty availability)
