Pre-College, Tuba

Haiyu Wang is currently the principal Tuba with the China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra (NCPA). He is also the adjunct instructor of tuba with the China Conservatory of Music. He served as an assistant instructor of tuba in the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University from 2015 to 2017. He held the tuba position with the China National Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2014. At the same time, he was also an instructor of tuba at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he taught both the college and high school students. 

 

Wang was awarded an honorable mention Diploma at the 51st International Competition in Markneukirchen in 2016. He won the mock orchestra audition and ranked first place at the Solo Artist Competition at the Northeast Regional Tuba & Euphonium Conference in 2015. He was the first prize winner at the Central Conservatory Brass Competition Tuba category in 2010. He was also a semi-finalist or finalist in several international competitions including the Jeju International Brass Competition and the International Performer Competition in Brno.  

 

At the age of 13, Wang was admitted into the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School, and studied tuba under the guidance of Bingyu Hu. He received his bachelor’s of music degree from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in 2011 and his master’s of music degree with a Performer’s Certificate from Indiana University in 2016.
