Your Privacy Rights
The Tianjin Juilliard School (referred to herein as “TJS” or “we”, “us”, “our” and other similar pronouns) cares about your privacy. This privacy policy (“Policy”) shall apply to all of Tianjin Juilliard’s websites and mobile applications from which this Policy is accessible (each, a “Website” and collectively, the “Websites”). We created this Policy to explain the type of information we collect, how we will use, disclose and protect this information once it is collected, and your rights to your information and disclosures of your information.
Please read this Policy carefully before using our Websites. This Policy explains our processing of Personal Information; acknowledging it does not by itself constitute consent to every processing activity described below. Where we rely on your consent, we will request it before the relevant processing. Where applicable law requires separate consent, including for certain overseas transfers, processing of Sensitive Personal Information or disclosure to other personal information processors, we will obtain that consent separately. You may withdraw consent through the channels described under “What are your rights?”.
Any questions or concerns regarding Tianjin Juilliard’s privacy and data protection practices can be directed to website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn.
Here are a few general principles to keep in mind as you read through this Policy:
Subject to your separate consent, we may share your Personal Information (as defined herein) with third parties for third-party marketing purposes.
This Policy does not apply to information that you may provide to us, or that we may obtain, other than through our Websites, such as over the phone, by mail, or in person, except that your rights to opt out of our use and sharing of your Personal Information with third parties for their own marketing purposes also apply to the Personal Information that we collect offline.
The Personal Information you provide may be processed in the People’s Republic of China and, where necessary for the relevant service, in other jurisdictions. We will protect it in accordance with this Policy and applicable laws, including the laws of the People’s Republic of China. Before an overseas transfer, we will provide the required notice identifying the overseas recipient and its contact details, the purposes and methods of processing, the information involved, and how you may exercise your rights against that recipient. We will obtain separate consent where required, conduct the required personal information protection impact assessment, and complete the applicable data export compliance procedures or establish an applicable exemption. See “How is your Personal Information transmitted globally?” for the relevant notice.
Third Party Websites
We work with service providers to support applications, ticketing and other Website services. Where a provider processes Personal Information on our behalf, we will define its responsibilities contractually and supervise its processing as required by applicable law. Some links lead to independent third-party services that determine their own processing practices. Their privacy notices apply to their processing; this does not exclude our responsibilities for processing that we undertake or arrange. Please read the relevant notice before providing information.
Online applications: The privacy policy of Technolutions, the provider identified in our application materials, is available at https://technolutions.com/privacy-policy. Please also review any TJS application-specific notice before submitting information.
Ticketing: When purchasing or reserving concert tickets, you may be directed to a third-party ticketing service, including Poly Ticketing where applicable. Review the privacy notice displayed by the relevant service before submitting information.
What information is collected on this Website?
“Personal Information” means information recorded electronically or otherwise that relates to an identified or identifiable natural person, excluding anonymised information. The information we process depends on the service you use. The following sections describe the relevant activities. Our collection and recipient schedules provide the specific data categories, purposes, methods, retention arrangements and recipient details for each applicable service.
Information collected when you browse the Websites
Information relating to your Website use (“Website Usage Information”)
When you browse a Website, our servers may collect technical and usage information needed for the relevant functions. This may include:
- your internet protocol (IP) address;
- your domain name;
- the name of your internet access provider;
- information about the computer’s or mobile device’s operating system;
- the web browser used to access the Website;
- usage information, such as the referring page, pages and content viewed, interactions, visit times and duration, downloads and search terms entered on our Websites, to the extent recorded by the tools in use and described in our collection schedule.
Information processed through cookies and other tracking technologies
We may use cookies, browser storage and pixels for Website functions and analytics. Our collection schedule identifies the tools actually used, their purposes, information collected, storage periods and available controls. Where consent is required, we will obtain it before the relevant processing.
Cookies: Cookies are small files stored on your browser or device. They may support functions such as keeping you signed in or remembering preferences, and may also support analytics where enabled. You can manage cookies through your browser settings and any privacy controls provided by the relevant service. Disabling cookies necessary for a particular function may affect that function. Optional processing will be subject to the applicable consent and withdrawal arrangements.
Browser storage: Website features may store information locally on your device. Where used, the collection schedule describes its purpose and the relevant controls.
Pixels and web beacons: These are small images or similar technologies that may record page visits or email interactions. Where used, the collection schedule identifies their purposes and the information involved.
These tracking technologies may be deployed by us and/or by our service providers on our behalf. These technologies enable us to assign a unique number to you, and relate your Website Usage Information to other information about you, including your Personal Information.
Information collected when you conduct a transaction on the Websites
For transactions handled through the Websites, the information processed depends on the transaction and payment provider. The collection schedule identifies which information TJS receives and which information is collected directly by the payment provider. Relevant categories may include:
- your contact details;
- payment or transaction references and, only where actually collected and disclosed in the relevant notice, financial account or payment-card information;
- your transaction history.
Information collected when you apply for TJS programmes
- your name;
- your date of birth;
- your postal address;
- your email address;
- your telephone numbers.
Information collected through other interactions
The collection schedule and relevant service notices describe the information collected when you:
- register for information about our digital products;
- create an alumni, student or other account on the Websites;
- sign up for our newsletter;
- make online purchases of products or tickets to events;
- complete quizzes or surveys, or submit a comment or question by email, through the “contact admissions” feature or through a similar Website feature;
- otherwise interact with us through the Websites.
Where a Website feature allows you to submit photographs, comments or other content, the relevant collection notice will explain the information involved and whether it will be visible to others. Please do not submit another person’s Personal Information without an appropriate lawful basis.
Sensitive Personal Information
Sensitive Personal Information includes information that, if leaked or misused, could readily harm personal dignity or personal or property security, including financial account information and all Personal Information of children under fourteen (14). We will assess dates of birth and other information in their processing context and apply appropriate protection. Where we process Sensitive Personal Information, we will explain the specific purpose, necessity and effects on your rights, apply strict safeguards, and obtain separate consent where required. For information about children under fourteen (14), see “Children”.
Information Obtained from Third Parties
Where we lawfully receive Personal Information from another organisation, we will identify the relevant source, categories and purpose in the applicable collection notice, verify the lawful basis for receiving and using it, and process it within the disclosed scope. We will provide additional notice and obtain consent where required.
Do Not Track Disclosures
Some web browsers may transmit “do-not-track” (DNT) signals to the websites with which the user communicates. Because of differences in how web browsers incorporate and activate this feature, it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted, or whether they are aware of them. Because there currently is no industry standard concerning what, if anything, websites should do when they receive such signals, we currently do not change our tracking practices in response to DNT settings in your web browser. We do not require third-party service providers to honour DNT settings in any particular way. If and when a final standard is established and accepted, we may reassess how to respond to these signals.
How is your information used?
We and our service providers may process Personal Information for the applicable purposes below, only where there is a lawful basis and to the extent necessary for the relevant activity. We rely on consent where required, or another applicable legal basis such as necessity for a contract with you or a legal obligation. The collection schedule identifies the applicable basis and data categories for each activity.
- enabling users to use this Website and its features;
- processing and fulfilling purchases or ticket transactions through the relevant Website service;
- enabling prospective candidates to apply to TJS programmes;
- developing new offerings, including mobile apps and other interactive products;
- administering our Websites and your student, alumni or other account with us;
- responding to your requests, questions and concerns;
- conducting market research;
- informing users about the availability of new features and offerings;
- facilitating software updates and product support for applications and programs;
- informing users of the availability of content supplements for existing applications;
- sending you marketing and other communications, including information about programmes, services, events and products offered by us or others that we think might interest you;
- protecting our rights and property;
- preventing fraud;
- displaying ads on our Website or other websites relating to your interests and history with us;
- administering contests and sweepstakes conducted by us or on our behalf;
- customising our Website to your interests and history with us;
- other specific purposes notified before the relevant processing, with any additional consent required by law.
Where we combine information from different interactions or sources for analytics or personalisation, we will explain that activity in the applicable notice and apply the relevant consent and choice requirements. We will not use a general statement in this Policy as permission for undisclosed processing.
Do we share Personal Information and Website Usage Information with others?
We may provide Personal Information to service providers or other recipients for the activities described below. The recipient schedule identifies the applicable recipients, their roles and contact details, the purposes and methods of processing, and the information involved. We will obtain separate consent where required for provision to another personal information processor or public disclosure.
- with affiliates or other independent recipients for specified marketing purposes, only with the required notice and separate consent;
- with a co-organiser of an activity you choose to participate in, as described in the activity-specific notice and with consent where required;
- where lawfully required for a legal obligation, an authorised request, or protection of life, health or property in an emergency, subject to applicable restrictions on disclosure;
- in connection with a merger, division, dissolution, bankruptcy or other lawful organisational change, with notice of the recipient’s identity and contact details and any renewed consent required by law.
We may share anonymised statistics that cannot identify an individual and cannot be restored to identifiable form. Removing names or contact details alone does not necessarily anonymise information; information that remains identifiable will continue to be protected as Personal Information.
If a Website feature permits you to post content, its notice will explain the intended audience. Content in a restricted area may be available to other authorised users of that area. Where we publicly disclose your Personal Information, we will obtain separate consent as required by law.
Retention
We retain Personal Information only for the shortest period necessary for the disclosed purpose, unless applicable law requires otherwise. The collection schedule sets out the relevant periods or how they are determined. When the purpose has been fulfilled or the applicable period expires, we will delete or anonymise the information, subject to lawful retention requirements. Where deletion is technically difficult, we will restrict processing as required by law.
What are your rights?
You may exercise the rights below by emailing website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn. We will verify your identity proportionately, handle requests promptly and explain any lawful reason for refusing or limiting a request. Where applicable, you may also use account settings or service-specific controls. You may ask us to explain our processing rules, raise a complaint with the competent authority or seek other remedies available under applicable law.
Access, copies, correction, deletion and account closure
You may request access to or a copy of your Personal Information, correction or completion of inaccurate or incomplete information, deletion where the legal conditions are met, restriction of processing, or closure of an applicable account. If a statutory retention period has not expired, or deletion is technically difficult, we will restrict processing to storage and necessary security measures as required by law. Our internal retention policies do not override your statutory rights.
Right to change or withdraw your consent
You may withdraw consent or change its scope by emailing website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn or using the relevant service controls. For marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link provided. To withdraw consent to sharing for third parties’ own marketing or to optional marketing texts, contact the same address or use an available unsubscribe method. We will explain the effect on the relevant service; refusing optional processing will not prevent access to unrelated services.
Where a recipient processes information independently, we will provide its available contact details to help you exercise your rights and will fulfil our own applicable duties. Withdrawal does not retrospectively invalidate processing lawfully completed before withdrawal.
Where we use Personal Information for automated marketing or personalised recommendations, we will provide a non-personalised option or a convenient way to refuse that processing. You may contact website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn to exercise this choice. We will not treat an opt-out as permission to continue the same personalised processing. You may still see non-personalised information or receive necessary service communications.
We use Google Analytics and Baidu Analytics to produce Website usage reports. The collection schedule describes their configuration, data categories, retention arrangements and relevant recipients. You may use our applicable privacy controls or contact website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn to exercise your rights. Google also provides a browser opt-out tool at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout; that tool applies to supported Google Analytics browser collection and does not control Baidu Analytics or all processing by TJS.
We will handle withdrawal and opt-out requests promptly. Necessary service communications may continue where supported by an applicable legal basis; they will not be used to bypass a marketing opt-out.
Your change or withdrawal of consent will not affect processing lawfully completed on the basis of your consent before withdrawal.
Right to data portability
You may obtain a copy of your Personal Information. Where a transfer request meets the applicable legal conditions, including identity verification, eligible information, technical feasibility and protection of others’ rights, we will provide a route for your designated personal information processor to access or obtain that information.
Right to restriction of automated decision-making systems
Where we use automated decision-making, we will ensure transparency and fair results as required by law. If a decision significantly affects your rights and interests, you may request an explanation and refuse a decision made solely through automated decision-making, subject to applicable law. Contact website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn to exercise these rights.
How is your Personal Information transmitted globally?
Some services may involve providing Personal Information outside mainland China. Before the relevant transfer, we will make the required recipient-specific notice available and follow the consent, assessment and transfer requirements described above. Different jurisdictions may have different protections; we will take the measures required to ensure the overseas recipient’s processing meets the protection standards required by applicable PRC law.
Social Networking
We maintain a presence on platforms including WeChat, Douyin, Xiaohongshu, Bilibili, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Where we collect Personal Information through these platforms, this Policy and any activity-specific notice apply to our processing. Each platform’s privacy notice governs its own processing. Please review the applicable notices before interacting or submitting information.
Text Messaging
We may use your mobile number for service messages relevant to your interaction with TJS, such as audition scheduling, on an applicable lawful basis. Optional marketing texts require the applicable consent; providing a phone number for a service does not by itself authorise unrelated marketing. You do not need to agree to marketing texts to purchase goods or services. Use the unsubscribe instructions in a message, where available, or email website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn to withdraw marketing consent. Message and data charges may apply. Provide another person’s number only where you are authorised and there is an appropriate lawful basis.
Security
We will implement appropriate technical and organisational measures required by law to protect Personal Information, including access controls and other safeguards appropriate to the risks. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed absolutely secure. This does not exclude or limit our responsibilities under applicable law.
Please keep account credentials confidential and notify us promptly of suspected unauthorised access. Responsibility for an incident will be determined under applicable law and the circumstances; use of your credentials does not automatically make you responsible for unauthorised activity.
If a Personal Information security incident occurs or may occur, we will take prompt remedial measures, report to the competent authorities and notify affected individuals as required by applicable law. Notifications will explain the relevant information, likely effects, measures taken, steps you can take and contact channels. We may notify you by email or another appropriate method. Any exception to individual notification will be applied only where permitted by law.
“Linked-To” Websites
Links may lead to independently operated websites. Their privacy notices govern their processing. Please review those notices before providing information. This does not exclude our responsibilities for Personal Information processing that we undertake or arrange.
Children
Our Websites provide information about programmes for adults and children. Children under fourteen (14) should not submit Personal Information independently. A parent or other guardian should review the applicable notice and submit or authorise information through the designated programme process. When we process information about a child under fourteen (14), we will obtain the guardian’s consent as required by law, apply strict safeguards and provide dedicated children’s personal information processing rules. Guardians may contact website@tianjinjuilliard.edu.cn to exercise rights or report information submitted without appropriate consent.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy and will identify the revision and effective dates. We will provide notice of material changes through an appropriate prominent channel. Where changes to processing purposes, methods or categories require renewed consent, we will obtain it before carrying out the changed processing. Publication of an updated Policy alone does not replace required consent.
Language
This Policy is provided in English and Chinese. If the versions differ, the English version prevails to the extent permitted by applicable law. This does not limit mandatory legal protections or our obligation to provide clear and accurate notice.
