Classical guitarist Beiyan Liu, born in Beijing in 1998, is currently a faculty member at The Tianjin Juilliard School Public Education division and a signed artist with Major Music. She serves as the brand ambassador for both Altamira and Natasha guitars.
Liu graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music, studying under Associate Professor Jiajiong Li and Associate Professor Jie Li , and Professor Meng Su at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Liu has won prizes in numerous prestigious international competitions, performed as a soloist with the China National Symphony Orchestra and the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, and contributed to recordings for programs on CCTV’s Music Channel. Her performance career has taken her across China, France, Spain, Germany, Japan, and the United States, with appearances in major venues such as the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing Concert Hall, Shanghai Concert Hall, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
In chamber music, Liu is a founding member of the Harmony Chamber Ensemble, which was honored with the Special Prize in the chamber music category at the A-class international music competition, the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition in Germany. She has released an album with the chamber ensemble titled Tango of Flowers.
Liu’s artistic pursuits extend into film, theater, and dance. She appeared as an actress in the award-winning film My Heart Leaps Up. She was invited to serve as the music director and onstage guitarist for the theatrical production The Primitive Family, which was featured at the Festival d’Avignon in France. She has also collaborated with the popular music industry, performing on Beijing TV galas. She collaborated with renowned conductor Tan Dun in Music and Film – Commemorating Music Master Toru Takemitsu, as well as a national tour of Carmen with celebrated ballerina and San Francisco Ballet principal dancer Yuanyuan Tan. Her work also extends to the intersection of music and fashion, with performances for leading international brands like Valentino.
In the realm of teaching, Liu has independently planned, filmed, and produced a wide range of videos on music and guitar, which have been widely praised by both professionals and the general public. She has given public lecture-performances such as From Bach to the Beatles at Apple, introducing the history, artistry, and cultural context of the guitar. In addition to leading master classes in Hong Kong, she remains actively engaged in promoting classical guitar education through a variety of outreach efforts, with a commitment to making high-quality music education more accessible and inspiring for young learners
