Wei He became CEO of The Tianjin Juilliard School in July 2022. He is also the artistic director of Juilliard’s campus in Tianjin —the first China-US joint venture performing arts school in China. He joined the Tianjin Juilliard administration in 2017 as the inaugural artistic director and dean where he was responsible for recruiting world-class resident faculty and establishing the highest artistic standard while overseeing all academic and performance activities at Tianjin Juilliard.
In his new role as CEO and artistic director, He will oversee Tianjin Juilliard, leading the joint-venture institution in bringing innovative approaches to music education throughout the region, and strengthening Juilliard's global presence in Asia. A firm believer that the art of music bridges cultures and brings people together, He has been actively pushing boundaries through exciting programming, performance collaborations, community outreaches, commissioning new works as well as creating art festivals.
An active violinist, He has performed with many renowned artists and ensembles including members of Juilliard, Concord, Shanghai String Quartet; Francesco Piano Trio; and San Francisco Symphony, among others. These performances have taken him to some of the most prestigious concert venues throughout the world including Carnegie Hall in New York; Kennedy Center in Washington D. C.; Royal Albert Hall in London; The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Seoul Arts Center in Korea; and National Center for Performing Arts in Beijing among others.
Prior to joining Tianjin Juilliard, He taught at San Francisco Conservatory of Music as professor of violin for 17 years and also served as Chair of the Strings Department. His students have won numerous prizes and awards at national and international competitions and have been featured soloists with some of the world's leading Symphony Orchestras. He frequently gives master classes at top music conservatories and universities in the States, Europe and Asia, and has also served as a Fulbright Senior Specialist.
He received his early music training at the middle school of Sichuan Conservatory of Music. He came to the US for his undergraduate studies at University of Texas at Austin and finished his graduate studies in Chamber Music at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He founded the award-winning New China Trio while in college. He joined the first violin section of the San Francisco Symphony shortly after graduating. He then co-founded Bridge Chamber Virtuosi with principle players of San Francisco Symphony. He has also served as co-artistic director of SF - Shanghai Chamber Music Festival, and is a founding member of QingPei Festival in China.
