Pre-College, Ear Training

Lyu is a cellist and ear training instructor. Since 2022, she has been part of The Tianjin Juilliard School Pre-College faculty, serving as an ear training teacher and a member of the chamber music intensive program. Additionally, she is a core member of the QingXin Ensemble, where she performs regularly as the resident cellist and contributes to the ensemble’s educational and outreach initiatives.
Lyu began her musical journey at age five, studying piano with Jing Gao of the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School. She transitioned to cello at age nine under the tutelage of Lingling Hu, principal cellist of the China National Traditional Orchestra. Though she paused her cello studies for several years due to academic demands, her passion and talent for music led her to resume training at 16. It was during this period that she began studying with Lixing Jiang, whose guidance profoundly influenced her artistic development. After two years of dedicated practice, she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in 2013, ranking first in her cohort. At CCOM, she studied under Professor Mingqing Yu and participated in a masterclass with Lynn Harrell, who highly praised her performance. As principal cellist of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, she collaborated with renowned artists such as Lynn Harrell, Vadim Repin, Lang Lang, Liwei Qin, and En Shao. In chamber music, her quartet received mentorship in masterclasses by the Shanghai Quartet and Hanxiang Gong, among others.
In September 2017, Lyu joined the Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, and became the acting assistant principal cellist. Her notable performances with the orchestra include Puccini’s Turandot in October 2018, the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 2019, and a landmark concert at Carnegie Hall in December 2019.
From 2020 to 2022, Lyu pursued graduate studies in chamber music at The Tianjin Juilliard School, where she was awarded a chamber music fellowship together with her string quartet members. She studied under distinguished artists including the Shanghai Quartet, Yeonjin Kim, and Guillaume Sutre. A passionate advocate for chamber music, she participated in the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar and achieved recognition in international competitions: she was shortlisted for the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition (2023), Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition (2023), and the 2024 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and was awarded Gold with Honours at the 2020/21 Singapore International Solo & Ensemble Competition (July 2021).
In 2023, Lyu served as a visiting lecturer at ShanghaiTech University, teaching the elective course The Art of String Quartets. That same year, she also led string quartet masterclasses at Monash University in Australia.
