The Tianjin Juilliard School is an educational institution offering a graduate program for a Master of Music degree from Juilliard in Instrumental and Orchestral Studies, Instrumental and Chamber Music, or Collaborative Piano; a Saturday Pre-College program for talented students ages 8-18; continuing education programs for professionals and adult learners; public education programs for music learners of all ages; and public performances. It is the first performing arts institution in China to offer a U.S.-accredited Master of Music degree.

The school is authorized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the Tianjin Municipal Government  (the Tianjin Conservatory of Music Juilliard Graduate School is the China-foreign joint institution of The Tianjin Juilliard School’s graduate degree programs) and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (USA).

Juilliard is developing the school in partnership with The Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Economic-Technological Development  Area Administrative Commission, and the Tianjin Innovative Finance Investment Company (T.I.F.I.). The 350,000 square-foot building is designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the same firm responsible for the 2009 expansion of Juilliard’s iconic New York home. The Tianjin Juilliard School is a center for performance, practice, research, and interactive exhibitions, with communal spaces that are designed to welcome the public into the creative process and performance of music.

The Tianjin Conservatory of Music

The Tianjin Conservatory of Music (TJCM) was founded in 1958. Its predecessor, the Central Conservatory of Music was founded in Tianjin in 1950. In July 1959, the Central Conservatory of Music moved to Beijing and TJCM was officially established. Miu Tianrui, a famous music educator and theorist, was the inaugural president of TJCM. As one of China’s earliest conservatories to grant master’s and bachelor’s degrees, TJCM has significant influence in China’s music education. Through the years, TJCM has nurtured more than ten thousand talents in composing, acting, theory and arts management, and has made a great contribution to the prosperity of China’s arts and culture. TJCM has an excellent faculty — consisting of many renowned musicians and scholars—and abundant academic resources in music, dance, drama, film, video, and artistic theory. As a visionary conservatory, TJCM is a partner of The Juilliard School to promote academic cooperation and the establishment of The Tianjin Juilliard School.

 

Tianjin Innovative Finance Investment LLC

Tianjin Innovative Finance Investment LLC (TIFI) is the operator of Yujiapu Financial District of Binhai New Area, Tianjin, responsible for the planning, construction, investment promotion and management of Yujiapu Financial District.

In September 2008, with the approval from Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, TIFI was founded with the investment from Tianjin Yujiapu Investment & Holdings, Tianjin Financial Investment Administrative Center, Tianjin Infrastructure Investment Group and Tianjin Haihe River Downstream Development Company. Up to December 30, 2017, TIFI held registered capital of 7.1 billion RMB, with total assets up to 60.4 billion RMB.

TIFI has worked closely with The Juilliard School and the Tianjin Conservatory of Music to establish The Tianjin Juilliard School.

 

The Juilliard School

Founded in 1905, The Juilliard School is a world leader in performing arts education. The school’s mission is to provide the highest caliber of artistic education for gifted musicians, dancers, and actors from around the world so that they may achieve their fullest potential as artists, leaders, and global citizens. Located at Lincoln Center in New York City, Juilliard offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in dance, drama (acting and playwriting), and music (classical, jazz, historical performance, and vocal arts). Currently more than 800 artists from 44 states and 42 countries and regions are enrolled at Juilliard, where they appear in over 700 annual performances in the school’s five theaters; at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully and David Geffen halls and at Carnegie Hall; as well as other venues around New York City, the country, and the world.
