Applications Now Open for Pre-College Program in Fall 2019 in Tianjin. Graduate Studies Program to Launch in Fall 2020 with Opening of New Building
NEW YORK—The Juilliard School in New York City announces the resident faculty for The Tianjin Juilliard School and that applications for the Saturday Pre-College program for young musicians ages 8 to 18 are now open. The school’s Graduate Studies programs, partnering with The Tianjin Conservatory of Music, all uniquely focused on collaborative musicianship, will launch in fall 2020, coinciding with the official opening of the new building.
The resident faculty members of The Tianjin Juilliard School have played in the world’s top symphony orchestras, have taught at prestigious conservatories, and won awards as soloists and chamber musicians. The Tianjin Juilliard School’s Pre-College program offers a comprehensive, conservatory-style music program for students ages 8-18 who exhibit the talent and potential to pursue serious music study. Pre-College students work with the school’s dedicated, world-class faculty and will be given ample opportunities to perform in solo, chamber, and orchestral concerts. The application for Pre-College studies at The Tianjin Juilliard School is now available at tianjin.juilliard.edu.
In the fall of 2020, The Tianjin Juilliard School, partnering with The Tianjin Conservatory of Music, will offer U.S.-accredited Master of Music degrees in orchestral studies, chamber music, and collaborative piano, pending approval by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Admission to Graduate Studies will be based on a competitive application and audition process. Location
Located in Tianjin, China, the vibrant new facility, with its state-of-the-art teaching and performance spaces, will offer a learning environment fostering artistic, intellectual, and personal growth. This new extension of Juilliard also presents an opportunity to forge stronger ties between China and the United States through artistic expression. The buildings were designed by the New York-based architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the same firm responsible for the 2006-09 expansion of Juilliard’s iconic New York home. Residential housing will be available for students in the graduate studies program.
The Tianjin Juilliard School will contribute to the development of artistic life in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei metropolitan area. The school plans to offer weekly public performances and outreach performances within the community. Tickets to these performances will be available to the public for free or at a very low cost. As many as 150 performances every year will be presented in the 687-seat concert hall, 299-seat recital hall, and 250-seat black-box theater.

Opening in 2019, The Tianjin Juilliard School brings Juilliard’s artistic and educational mission to a wider global audience. The Tianjin Juilliard School will be the first performing arts institution in China to offer a U.S.- accredited Master of Music degree, pending approval by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Tianjin Juilliard School will be a center for performance, practice, research, and interactive exhibitions, with communal spaces that are designed to welcome the public into the creative process and performance of music.
