The Tianjin Juilliard School is transforming the landscape of music-making and education in China. Earn a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in the first joint venture to offer a U.S.-accredited music degree in China. At The Tianjin Juilliard School, you will be able to continue to build upon Juilliard’s tradition of musical excellence, refining your craft with world-renowned artists, and build a global peer network.

Collaborative Musicianship

Through coursework, students strengthen their ability to generate and communicate interpretative opinions and explore the nature of collaboration using innovative techniques drawn from the worlds of acting, team-building, and music.

Performance Opportunities

Performing before a live audience is one of the most valuable aspects of a Juilliard education, and at the school, the resources and performance opportunities to do so are abundant.

A Global Peer Network

At The Tianjin Juilliard School, students will benefit from becoming part of an international community of exceptional artists. The networks developed by students will provide a foundation for their professional lives.

Curriculum

Pre-college education takes place on Saturdays, from September through May. The Division offers a complete curriculum that includes weekly lessons on your major instrument, chamber music, and classes in music theory and ear training, as well as electives. Frequent opportunities to perform solo, chamber and orchestral concerts enrich the educational experience and prepare students for a future in music. Instruction is bilingual in English and Chinese, and requires time and commitment from students and their families.

The Music Advancement Program will play an important role within the community through high-quality arts education for the public. The Tianjin Juilliard School’s Public Music Education Program will provide students with a variety of courses based on the individual student’s diverse learning objectives and personal standards. Students come from all walks of life. They are of different age groups, professional levels, backgrounds, and experiences with diverse learning motivations.

The music classes could be well suited for individuals seeking introductory lessons to classical music; students who have mastered playing a musical instrument and are motivated to raise their proficiency and artistic attainment; or could also serve adults or retirees who wish to continue their studies in music. This curriculum design will provide students with quality learning opportunities through participation, and enhance their overall understanding of the performing arts including performance skills. This program is a new model in arts education in China and Asia.

Tianjin is an up-and-coming city, as one can easily tell from the development of businesses and buildings in downtown Tianjin. The Binhai New Area, where the Tianjin Juilliard campus is located can be described as peaceful. Situated just beside the Haihe river, one can be treated to the gorgeous view of the waters all year round, with well-maintained parks just in its vicinities.

Faculty

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Students at Tianjin Juilliard receive instruction from faculty who are distinguished soloists, orchestral musicians, and chamber players, composers, conductors, and scholars with extensive teaching experience. Mentorship, through private lessons and coaching from an international roster of faculty-in-residence, form the core of students’ musical education. This experience is enriched by frequent opportunities to work with visiting faculty from Juilliard in New York, whose involvement range from weeklong master classes to longer-term projects and recurring residencies. The challenge embraced by our faculty is a complex one: to nurture and guide each aspiring musician toward the fullest expression of his or her talent, and to equip each student with the professional skills and experience needed to pursue a career in the arts.
